Page name

[edit]

I really think this page should be under Belgian First Division. We don't want to move the page everytime the KBVB picks a new sponsor. And at least then it would make sense to say that Anderlecht have won the title 28 times, because they most definitely did not win the Jupiler league 28 times. Piet 14:53, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone react to this? It's a big change, I'd prefer if some of the regular editors of this page would comment. Piet 07:24, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The name has been changed again without any prior discussion. I think the change is quite arbitrary and without a good reason, even though the title is not wrong an sich, it is not how it should be. Should we discuss this, or does someone feel like making the effort to change it all (league pages + all team pages + several other pages) back? --GraafGeorge (talk) 00:39, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Jupiler League.jpg

[edit]

Image:Jupiler League.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

What else? What about Brussels-teams? What about Anderlecht? What about FC Brussels? Böri (talk) 10:47, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for this list, I guess, but there's no way this is of any relevance to an article about the Belgian League.--GraafGeorge (talk) 19:08, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the League

[edit]

@Pelotas: Sorry, the name Belgian Pro League is wrong. Pro League is the name of the organisation that runs the league on behalf of the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA). The name of the League is **Division 1A or with name of sponsor Jupiler Pro League. You can read this on Pro League and Pro League. Pro League is in Belgium what in England the Football Association Premier League Ltd is. Excuse me. I am not perfekt on English. Nordprinz (talk) 21:42, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Nordprinz: You are right, the "Pro League" is indeed the Belgian equivalent of the FA Premier League, however, your second link is outdated. The names Belgian First Division 1A and Belgian First Division B are no longer used, with the distinction A/B replaced with entirely new names. See [1] which explains how the Belgian First Division B was rebranded Challenger Pro League, while the first division now refers to its old name Jupiler Pro League. But because sponsor names (Jupiler) cannot be used I renamed it Belgian Pro League. I understand the confusion with the organization running the league but I don't see a better option. The reference Belgian First Division (Dutch: Eerste klasse) is seldom used compared to the official Pro League... Pelotastalk|contribs 22:16, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Pelotas and Nordprinz: Hello, just curious, on what basis was Belgian First Division A moved to Belgian Pro League? Was there a discussion somewhere, or did someone unilaterally move it? Paul Vaurie (talk) 05:40, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul Vaurie: I moved it. The distinction 1st Div A/B is no longer used since this season. Official name now Jupiler Pro League, named after sponsor Jupiler. Hence chose Belgian Pro League as "Pro League" is too vague and commonly used. Pelotastalk|contribs 08:22, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Although I agree that the name should be Belgian Pro League (my argument is WP:COMMONNAME), you can't just unilaterally move such a high-profile football article in this way since this move could be considered controversial. I would have suggested to make an RM before you moved it, but since we're past that, I don't know what to do. Paul Vaurie (talk) 09:13, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pelotas: I left a comment at WT:WPF. Paul Vaurie (talk) 09:14, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
